Hi, I’m Victoria akhteebo [She/her/hers].
I am an EMDR trained, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) with four years of mental health experience in private practice, university, community mental health agencies, and long-term care settings. I completed EMDR training in 2020 and I am in the process of becoming certified.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from North Park University. My favorite classes were Social Psychology, Learning and cognition, and Psychobiology. In 2020, I graduated with a Master in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from DePaul University.
I have a great interest in trauma work and neuroscience. I think it’s important to be aware of the functions of the brain and body to help understand and navigate mental health challenges. I enjoy providing psycho education to help clients make sense of things that they are working on and understand the “why” of things that are happening to them.
I use an integrative approach using modalities such as CBT, DBT, Solution-Focused, and Client-Centered therapies. I am trained in EMDR and Motivational Interviewing. I also utilize Attachment-focused EMDR to help heal developmental deficits. I also incorporate Polyvagal Theory and Internal Family Systems parts work in conjunction with EMDR and/or talk therapy. My interests include working with adults with trauma and mood and anxiety disorders. You can expect a warm, empathetic, nonjudgemental, and funny person (at times) in the counseling space.
I am Assyrian (Middle Eastern), and I highly value cultural competency and being gender inclusive in my work with clients. I have experience working with individuals of all races, ethnicities, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic statuses. Working with children of immigrants is another passion of mine because it’s challenging to juggle preserving your culture and assimilation to Western culture.
In my free time, I enjoy doing my own nails, painting, reading, traveling, and spending time with family. I have 5 nieces and nephews and a goddaughter.
Taking the first step to start therapy is a courageous and deeply personal decision, and I am here to ensure you feel supported, understood, and empowered every step of the way. Contact me today for a free 15-minute consultation—together, we’ll take the first step toward the life you deserve.
My Approach
I use a trauma-informed approach to therapy, focusing on creating a safe, empowering, and collaborative environment while acknowledging the impact of trauma on a person’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being.
