Telehealth Policy | Effective date: 3/10/2025

At Empowered Emotions Counseling, I offer telehealth counseling services to provide accessible and convenient mental health care. This policy outlines the terms, privacy, and security measures related to my telehealth services.

What is Telehealth?

  • Telehealth involves the use of secure video conferencing, phone calls, or other digital communication tools to provide mental health services remotely. It allows clients to receive therapy from the comfort of their own space while ensuring confidentiality and high-quality care.

Eligibility for Telehealth Services

  • Telehealth services are available to clients located in Illinois.

  • You must have access to a private and secure location with a stable internet connection.

  • Some mental health concerns may require in-person care, and I may refer you to an appropriate provider if telehealth is not suitable for your needs.

Confidentiality & Security

  • Sessions are conducted through HIPAA-compliant and encrypted platform.

  • I do not record sessions unless explicitly agreed upon for therapeutic purposes.

  • Clients are responsible for ensuring their own privacy by choosing a secure and quiet location for sessions.

Potential Risks of Telehealth

  • Technical issues (internet disruptions, software malfunctions).

  • Reduced ability to assess non-verbal cues compared to in-person sessions.

  • Possible security risks if using an unsecured network or device.

Client Responsibilities

  • Use a reliable and private internet connection.

  • Ensure a confidential environment free from interruptions.

  • Not record sessions without prior written consent.

  • Inform your therapist immediately if experiencing technical difficulties.

Emergency & Crisis Situations

  • Telehealth is not suitable for crisis situations. If you are experiencing an emergency, please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

  • If you are in distress and need immediate mental health support, please contact a crisis helpline such as the CARE line at 1-800-345-9049. This helpline is available 24-7. Please also refer to my resources page.

Consent to Telehealth Services

  • By scheduling a telehealth session, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy and consent to receiving mental health services remotely.
